PUBG Global Invitational.S2021 has opened the cyber sport’s stage with Korean “Battle Royal” in the new year and even achieved a record in a new discipline. Esports Charts tells how the tournament influenced the indicators of the Playerunknown’s battlegrounds.
In PUBG Global Invitational .S2021 participated 32 teams, who fought to win 7 million dollars. Today it is the biggest prize fund in the history of the game. It is higher than others, more popular titles, for example, CS:GO record will be PGL Major Stockholm 2021, where participants will fight for $2 million.
Every week players competed in Weekly Survival, then was Weekly Finals, where 16 best teams were playing. For the rest of the teams, the week has ended with the Bottom 16 format. The competition covered 7 regions: Europe, China, Southeast Asia, North and Latin Americas, South Korea, Japan, and Chinese Taipei. This attracted a huge amount of viewers from around the world. The streaming format was mixed: teams from China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, and South Korea were performing in their countries off-line. The rest of the regions played online. The most viewing hours brought in Koreans (31,5%). In South Korea this game is almost like local religion, therefore, official PUBG Korea streaming on Twitch gathered the most viewers — 56 thousand. The second place goes to Thai viewers (21,7%) — official streaming fpsthailand on Twitch been viewed by 27 thousand people. Lots of viewers from other countries because the streaming was on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, AfreecaTV, TikTok, and VK. The tournament was covered in 10 different languages.

PUBG Global Invitational .S2021 managed to revive the interest in Korean Discipline by getting a record of 25,9 million hours of viewing. Compare to 2018 it increased by 178%. Currently, it is the highest indicator in this metric in the whole history of the discipline. With the peak viewers — 221 thousand people been watching the final fight at the same time, the tournament got into the Top-5
Note, that no one of the PUBG events entered the Top -10 with the peak viewers in 2020, but the format Invitational didn’t exist last year. So the year for PUBG has started well. Will see what will happen with this discipline in the future. Perhaps, we are waiting for the new surge of interest in one of the popularizers of the genre “battle royal”.
