All about qualifiers for The International 2021 – format, participants, and schedule

The regional qualifiers for The International 2021 begin today – the last chance to get to the main Dota 2 tournament of the year. This year the qualifiers will be held in a new format, but traditionally they will be very hot, so you definitely shouldn’t miss something like that.

Before the start of the tournament, we have collected for you all the information about the upcoming battles. This resource will help you learn everything you need to know about The International 10 Qualifier and not miss out on anything important.

Format and schedule

Along with the change to the Dota Pro Circuit, the rules of the regional qualifiers at The International were also adjusted. There will be no open qualifiers this year: only teams that have played in the regional leagues of the second season of DPC 2021 will be able to take part in the fight for the last places. And only those of them who have replaced no more than two players.

In each of the six regions, the tournament will be held in a double-elimination system (elimination bracket after two defeats) for 16 teams, with eight starting from the upper bracket and the other eight from the lower bracket. The … Посев?… depended on the DPC points scored and the place in the first or second division of the regional league.

Only one team from each region will go to TI10. For various reasons, some regions will play earlier and others later.

  • June 23-26 – Eastern Europe (CIS), South America
  • June 30 – July 3 – North America, Southeast Asia
  • July 7-10 – China, Western Europe

TI10 Qualifier Participants

Initially, there were 16 qualifiers in each region: eight teams from two divisions of the Dota Pro Circuit 2021 S2 regional leagues. However, some places were vacated since some of the teams secured slots at The International according to the DPC rating. Some were disqualified during the season and will also not participate in the qualifiers.

Eastern Europe / CIS

Upper Bracket: Spirit, Winstrike, PuckChamp, Unique, NAVI, EXTREMUM, Gambit, HellRaisers.

Lower Bracket: Empire, NoTechies, B8, Nemiga, Trident, Fantastic Five.

Schedule and results (from 23rd to 26th June).

Perhaps one of the main favorites in our region will be Team Spirit, who showed good form at the Major in Kyiv. However, the “dragons” quals will not be simple: at least, Natus Vincere, who has recently strengthened, is ready to argue with this.

Vladimir Maelstorm Kuzminov, commentator (Storm Snakes podcast):

With all due respect to the rest of the teams, if Spirit wins the qualification, they will show the best result at TI among the teams from the CIS. Yes, they may lose these qualifiers, but those to whom they lose are unlikely to perform better in the main event.

Perhaps, other participants of the major AS Monaco Gambit will be able to surprise. Before the qualifiers, they also made a substitution (eine instead of 633) and are still competing for the slot. It will be interesting to look at HellRaisers – the Resolut1on and Cooman teams looked very confident in the second division.

There are also some more interesting teams. Young PuckChamp led by ArtStyle, Team Unique with fn and Ghostik, Dendi, and Solo teams. We have to know that that anything can happen in this region.

South America

Top Bracket: NoPing, SG, Infamous, Hokori, Unknown, Egoboys, BINOMISTAS, Infinity.

Lower Bracket: ex-Crewmates, Inverse, Omega, Gorillaz-Pride, Latam Defenders, Incubus Club.

Schedule and results (from 23rd to 26th June).

And at night on the same days, you can enjoy the battles of the Peruvians with the Brazilians. One of the main Russian-speaking specialists in the region, 1ceN1ce, highlights NoPing, which we recently could see at the major. Even though the guys could not prove themselves 100%.

Daniel 1ceN1ce Khalikov, commentator (comment for CQ):

We were unlucky with the brackets we played with two teams from North America, although I wanted to try myself against other regions. Somewhere the excitement played its role, considering the first tournament experience outside America with 3 players. Nevertheless, they are the main favorites for the slot.

I would like to see a fight from Infamous, who have lost themselves since January. Although kxy returned to mid, suddenly they lose their main carrier to carry Pakazs. For some reason, he moved to Team Unknown.

These are big and important tags in Peru, but their combat effectiveness against NoPing is hard to believe. Brazilians SG, like Infamous, disappointed and failed to show themselves in both DPC seasons. But in theory, they can still impose a fight. So I would single out these 4 commands: NoPing, SG, Infamous, Unknown. Among the dark horses, Infinity can also be distinguished.

North America

Top Bracket: Undying, 4Zoomers, TOOBASED, sadboys, Black N Yellow, Hustlers, Arkosh, Cut.

Lower Bracket: DogChamp, felt, Electronic Boys, 5ManMidas.

Schedule and results (from June 30 to July 3).

It is curious that a team that has not participated in any Major in 2021 will get to The International from this region. Quincy Crew and EG earned tickets both times, while Undying finished third for two times. Now there are no two main rivals, and the five with Timado and Moonmeander are becoming the main favorite.

In addition to strong 4Zoomers with experienced Brax, you should pay attention to the Sadboys team (EternaLEnVy, ZFreek, and Moo), a stack of 1437 D2 Hustlers, and a modest felt, in which the carry and mid from the CIS are played. The only pity is that one of them is unlikely to compete with Undying.

Southeast Asia

Upper Bracket: TNC, Neon, Fnatic, Execration, BOOM, Omega, Motivate.Trust, Team SMG.

Lower Bracket: Lilgun, South Built, Galaxy Racer, 496 Gaming, Army Geniuses, Mystery, Cignal Ultra.

Schedule and results (from June 30th to July 3rd).

The qualifiers in the SEA region should be really interesting. Only one Asian team went directly to Int, and now the rest of the leaders will fight for the last slot. The stakes are high, and the competition is very serious: this is known even by players from other regions.

David MoonMeander Tan, Undying player (Twitter):

Everyone has gone raving mad that Europe is the hardest region in the qualifiers for The International. But to be honest, Southeast Asia looks extremely intimidating.

One of the main contenders for a ticket in the face of TNC has recently been strengthened by an experienced coach March. OB Neon and Fnatic have no fewer chances. In addition, during the season, the SEA region surprised us with its results more than once, and this can play a decisive role in double-elimination.

Western Europe

Upper Bracket: Nigma, Liquid, Tundra, OG, Vikin.gg, Brame, Level UP, Hellbear Smashers.

Bottom Bracket: Ghost Frogs, Bald Reborn, Into The Breach, NBH, Chicken Fighters, Hippomaniacs.

Schedule and Results (7-10 July).

For sweet Valve saved bright battles with the participation of world stars. The reigning world champions OG with a newcomer in the face of Suma1L, their rivals in the last Nigma final together with the bright iLTW, always dangerous Team Liquid …

And that’s not all! There are many strong teams in the region, which are just waiting for the mistakes of the tops. Tundra Esports or Vikin.gg can cause trouble, even a stack of Spider Pigzs with Funn1k on the hard lane and the aggressive child on the easy lane. It will definitely be interesting, although there is still time until the last qual.

China

Top Bracket: Elephant, EHOME, Phoenix, RNG, LBZS, Sparking Arrow, Aster.Aries, MagMa.

Lower Bracket: CDEC, Xtreme Gaming.

Schedule and Results (7-10 July).

All four giants, which were selected from the region for both majors, were able to score enough points to go directly to The International. This is great news for the Elephant members, who have both ranked fifth in the league from Perfect World. It seems that now Maybe and fy no one can interfere.

Or can it? There are sturdy EHOME with the legendary QQQ on the trainer slot. There are the champions of the second division of Phoenix Gaming, a promising RNG roster, and many others. All of them are weaker than Elephant, and so far it seems that this will be the most predictable region, but fans of “elephants” should not be happy ahead of time.
