Chinese teams will not be attending ESL One Stockholm Dota Major 2022

Teams from China will not be able to play in Sweden at the ESL One Stockholm Dota Major 2022 tournament. This was announced by tournament operator Perfect World in a tweet.

The organisers did not specify why the Chinese teams would miss the tournament. Supposedly, it could be due to a new coronavirus outbreak, as well as a hard lockdown in Shanghai and other cities. According to other reports, Chinese teams may have difficulty returning home if they travel abroad, as they did after The International 10 (2021) — when several players had to stay in a hotel for around two months.

According to representatives of Perfect World, instead of attending the major in Stockholm, the Chinese teams will hold a local, regional final, which will be held from May 6 to 8. More details about the tournament will be announced later.

The results for the spring DPC 2021/2022 season in China are in the four major tournament slots. The winners were PSG.LGD, Xtreme Gaming, Team Aster and Royal Never Give Up. It is likely that the same teams will play in the regional finals.

ESL One Stockholm Dota Major 2022 matches will be held from May 12 to 22 in the Swedish capital city at Hovet Arena. The tournament prize fund will be $500 000 and 3 530 DPC points. Without the Chinese teams, the number of participants was reduced from 18 to 14 teams. It is not yet clear whether all Eastern European teams will be able to attend the tournament.
