DOTA 2 for Dummies: An Overview

Whether you are a gamer or not, DOTA 2 isn’t a cakewalk. It requires considerable gaming skill, and if you are still playing candy crush or bejeweled, then back off, because playing this game will not be easy. However, if you are a fan of taking challenges, you can give DOTA 2 a shot.

Valve’s DOTA 2 has a prerequisite of learning a set of rules before you start the game. It is basically a multiplayer online battle game that gives you quite the thrill once you know how to play it. It is also among one of the best PC games available now.

The objective in DOTA 2

If you are a hundred percent fresh to DOTA 2, then you need to get hold of the basics first. There are two teams in this game. Each team consists of five players, each of them being a playable hero. The core objective of your team should be to annihilate the Ancient of the other team’s, which is practically the basic core of the enemy’s base. Also, the two teams are known as ‘Dire’ and ‘Radiant.’

DOTA 2 Map.

The map of DOTA 2 mainly consists of 2 things— lanes and jungles. There are three lanes. These are routes that connect the two enemy bases. The three lanes are top, middle, and bottom. This is the path you follow to reach to your enemy’s camp and destroy their Ancient. You would also meet an array of creeps and trolls along the path, who you have to defeat.

Apart from lanes, there is a jungle in DOTA 2. This is the part of the map’s topography the occupies the space between the lanes. It is the area that is filled with neutral monsters. This means that they will attack anyone they see; it can be you or your opponent.

Dire or Radiant: Which Team Should I Pick?

Previously Radiant had a better winning stat. However, with the launch of DOTA 2, the game ousted the shrines and added outposts instead. Also, there are other minor changes that were brought about in this game.

Strategically speaking, this has put Dire in a better position than Radiant. Dire is also located at a vantage point with respect to Roshan (a powerful creep). Radiant, on the other hand, is located in an advantageous position at a location in between two neutral camps.

Overall, in DOTA 2, Dire has a better position, and we would side with dire if we had the option. However, the selection of a team depends on your style of gameplay.

Still Not Sure Where to Start?

If you aren’t sure of your gaming skills, then that’s fine. Playing against a real team is not always necessary, especially in DOTA 2. You can notch up your skills by playing against bots. The bot surely won’t give you a smug face if you lose. Playing tens and hundreds of times against the AI is perhaps the best solution for learning this game and playing it in a more effective manner.
