New lines about CS:GO and Source 2 found in Dota 2 code

Dataminers have found references to CS:GO and the Source 2 engine in Dota 2‘s files. New lines of code appeared in the client after the release of patch 7.31d.

This is not the first hint on the possible porting of CS:GO to the new engine. Previously, information on the Source 2 connection with the shooter was reported by insider Gabe Follower. At that time, new toolkit features were responsible for weapon sticker placement.

In March 2022 it was reported by insiders that Valve was considering a rebranding of CS:GO along with the game’s transition to the Source 2 engine. It was reported that the shooter will be renamed as Counter-Strike, and the game will remove the reference to terrorists. Such changes should help the studio avoid difficulties in obtaining age ratings and sponsorship deals.
