Valve banned 40 000 Dota players for using cheats

Valve has blocked 40 000 accounts in Dota for using cheats.

Company officials noted that they used “baiting” in order to figure out dishonest players.

“Today, we permanently blocked more than 40 000 accounts in the last few weeks that used third-party software to play dishonestly. These programs accessed hidden information exclusive to the game client, giving the user an unfair advantage.

It was more important for us to fix the vulnerabilities that made cheats possible, but we also decided to remove cheaters from our active player database – for this, we released a special update as soon as we figured out the cheating method.

Finally, we want to thank everyone who takes the time and effort to help us – both those who complain about suspicious players and those who review Patrol cases. Thank you for making Dota a better place for all of us,” the statement said.
